CPH:DOX Festival Recap with Eka Tsotsoria, Nico Centrone, and Daniel Oxenhandler

[April 2, 2022] This episode pulls focus on CPH:DOX - one of the biggest documentary film festivals in Europe today. Situated in Copenhagen, the festival began on March 23, and we just wrapped up a full week of screenings!
This year, the festival is hosting many exciting in-person events in Copenhagen and online offers for both the industry and the public, with a selection of films streaming online in Denmark for the first ten days of April.
Eka Tsotsoria from Tbilisi joins Domenico Centrone in Italy and Daniel Oxenhandler in Copenhagen to recap the festival.
Eka and Nico have been following the festival remotely, while Daniel offers his perspective directly from the ground. Apart from the ambiance and energy of CPH:DOX this year, we discuss our highlights from the program, including, THE TERRITORY by Alex Pritz, HOLIDAYS by Antoine Cattin, and the spellbinding film AFTERWATER by Dane Komljen.

Eka Tsotsoria is a filmmaker and editor from Tbilisi, Georgia, with a background intersecting between creative documentary, art history and education. She studied Film History at the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film University in Tbilisi and documentary film Directing at DocNomads. Eka was the former culture writer for Netgazeti.ge and facilitator for the Georgian National Film Center.
Today, Eka works mainly as an editor for creative documentary films and was the editor of HOW THE ROOM FELT by Ketevan Kapanadze which premiered at IDFA in 2021 and is currently making rounds in film festivals.
Domenico Centrone is an Italian filmmaker specialized in non-fiction films. After graduating in Media Studies in Rome, he earned an M.A. in Non-Fiction Cinema from Università degli Studi Roma 3 and an M.A. from DocNomads, the first European Joint Master in Documentary Directing,. During his studies he directed and produced several award-winning shorts and feature films, obtaining expertise in international co-productions and practicing filmmaking in high-risk areas. He is currently based between Brussels and the Southeast of Italy, where he recently founded Studio Nuvolari, a film company and residency in the countryside focused on non-fiction filmmaking and visual art.
Daniel Oxenhandler is an independent filmmaker and interdisciplinary arts producer. He has played a leading role in designing, curating and organizing international arts, culture, and innovation festivals and projects across the world. Daniel is the Head of Cultural Projects at Enactlab in Copenhagen where he works on developing interdisciplinary projects and partnerships which bring together unique intersections of film, art, research, and impact in order to explore complex social issues, as they manifest across cultures around the world. He has lived in various places and always in pursuit of culture, film, music and deep learning.
